Playtest 2

I've created an SSD (Ship's System Diagram) for a Klingon Heavy Cruiser, and created rules for photon torpedoes, disruptors, and cloaking devices. Now I'm playtesting a battle between a Klingon Heavy Cruiser and Federation Heavy Cruiser. I'll post results once I'm finished....

USS Guadalcanal Stardate unknown. Time index 0508.23

USS Guadalcanal. Captain Murphy recording. Thanks to timely assistance from
Captain Kathryn Janeway of the starship Voyager, some of our questions have
been answered. The communication we received from Voyager contained location
coding that placed it in the Delta Quadrant, and travelled through
Federation relay stations that my comm officer tells me bear carrier wave
encoding that places us in the general direction of Tholian space. That is
cause for concern. We also discovered that AEGIS is, according to some
unconfirmed reports within the Federation data banks, the advanced
civilization/organization that Gary Seven worked for during the latter half
of the twentieth century, with the stated purpose of helping Earth to
survive turbulent times in our history. Further digging revealed that AEGIS
had, according to the logs of Captain Kirk, of the Constitution class
Enterprise, a transporter that could have reached across time and space. If
whatever happened to us has anything to do with AEGIS, the Tholians are the
least of our problems. While we are technically at peace with Tholia,
they'll never allow an unauthorized alien starship to cross their space.
With that in mind, I've ordered a course that will carefully and
unmistakably skirt Tholian territory.

Communique to USS Voyager Stardate 0508.23

To: Captain Kathryn Janeway, Commanding Officer USS Voyager
From: Admiral Jenner, Commander Hawking Research Institute Aldeberon Sector

An attempt to construct a stable wormhole between the uninhabited Durandal
system and the Delta Quadrant has resulted in a stable, but one-way
wormhole. Science ships have made several unsuccessful attempts to repair
the wormhole to bring you home. We have lost three such ships, and can
authorize no more. Once an ion storm clears the are, we intend to collapse
the wormhole, and as soon as possible, our end of the wormhole will be
patrolled to prevent any ships from accessing it. In the meantime, you
should be aware that starships from the Alpha Quadrant may find their way
through. If ships brave the ion storm and use the wormhole before we get to
it, you may encounter them. And considering the sometimes wild nature of the
Durandal system, some of those ships could be unfriendly. Forewarned is
forearmed. And of course, we are redoubling our efforts to get you home.

Good luck, phasers on stun.

(OOC: This is something you can do what you like with. Figure that the
signal was sent omnidirectionally from a beacon sent through the wormhole as
the ion storm settled in. It could be in front of or behind you. It might be
real close, it might be at the very edge of sensor range. This is, again, a
bit of a test. No trivia hunts, no dice rolling unless you want.)

General Distress Call

This is Captain Murphy of the USS Guadalcanal.

The USS Guadalcanal has suffered a general systems failure after being drawn into an unidentified phenomenon in the Donatu system. We have been thrown what we believe to be more than a thousand light-years, and our library computer has been seriously compromised. We have no way of plotting a course home or even determining our general location. We only know that our most powerful visual scans cannot find any easily identifiable stars. The only clue we have to cling to is a word that seems to have imprinted itself on our computer course. That word is AEGIS. Any ships receiving this, please consult the Federation databanks at frequency http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Main_Page . Communicate any information to my personal subspace channel, via code abukoff (at) gmail.com.

Ballad of House Abukoff:

Yet if my line should die,
it dies with its teeth in the enemy's throat,
it dies with its name on the enemy's tongue.
For just as mere life is not victory,
mere death is not defeat;
And in the next world I shall kill the foe a thousand times,
laughing,
undefeated.
